Artist Biography

SONA ARORA
Sona, a visual artist specializing in oil and acrylic figurative and abstract painting, also holds certification as a Zentangle teacher. Her passion for fine arts has been a lifelong pursuit, alongside her previous career as a chemistry teacher. Upon moving overseas with her young family, art took precedence, leading her to explore glass painting, sketching, portrait drawing, and further honing her skills in oil and acrylic painting while obtaining certification as a Zentangle teacher. Her artistic interests extend beyond painting, encompassing crochet and Indian folk art forms like kalamkari and Gond art.

Driven by a deep passion for mental health and emotional well-being, Sona actively practices yoga, meditation, and mindfulness, finding inspiration in nature. Alongside raising two successful young adults, she resides in Singapore with her husband, a finance professional, nurturing her love for plants and proudly embracing the title of "plant mother."

Having had the privilege of learning from master artist Jatin Das in her childhood, coupled with formal art education, Sona's expertise extends to conducting Zentangle workshops at mental health awareness festivals like Beyond the Label 2023 and the Mental Health Film Festival 2023. Her philanthropic efforts include donating proceeds from her art sales to AWARE. Her artworks have been showcased in various exhibitions across Singapore, including Design Orchard , The ion art gallery and The Arts House, with her Zentangle art featured in the book "Tangle All Around" in 2023. As both an art teacher and mentor, Sona is celebrated for her patient and encouraging demeanor.

A passionate artist, I work with acrylics, oils, and microtip pens, creating diverse pieces from figurative to abstract and landscapes. My creative process varies; abstract works evolve with colors, while figurative or landscape pieces start with a vivid mental image. As an art teacher, I infuse mindfulness into classes, finding joy when students appreciate the peaceful environment and learn new techniques. Each artwork is a labor of love, designed to bring a sense of calm, peace, and joy—mirroring the emotions art invokes in me. My goal is to inspire others, regardless of age, to embrace painting for its therapeutic and calming effects. Outside art, I find solace in gardening, meditation, and yoga. As a former IB chemistry teacher turned mother of two, my influence stems from nature, guiding my aspirations to exhibit globally and establish my own art school.
